The MGB GT was launched in 1965, an attractive and
functional closed version of the standard roadster body. In
appearance, the bonnet, front wings and doors were
essentially the same as the roadster, but with a slightly
higher windscreen to allow for a higher roof line on the
car. In place of the roadsters small boot lid is a larger,
hinged tailgate that provides access to the loadspace
inside, making it an early example of the hatchback.
Inside, this car has a small rear seat that is not much use
except for carrying pets or small children. The seat can,
however, be folded flat to provide a large load platform
for luggage making this a really useful two-seater touring
sports car.
This MGB GT was first registered on the 6th August 1968. It
has a 1798cc or 109.8 cu in 4-cylinder OHV petrol engine
that produces 94bhp (at 5500 rpm), with an engine number of
3986. The car is painted in Tartan Red, a popular colour
even today, and it's Chassis number is recorded as
GHD4149049. It has a black leather interior that is only
about 78 years old, and a set of painted wire wheels. Other
than these modifications, the car is pretty much original,
including the rust that now needs attention, and the
electrics that are showing their age.
I am not a full-time mechanic or car restorer, so I need to
fit the restoration into the spare time I have, alongside
running my own companies - the Schalun Organisation and Jack Marketing Solutions. But as
these provide the funds for the restoration, I cannot
give them up!
